2014 Achieving Excellence

Achieving goals on the field and in the classroom

Kate Doyle

Kate Doyle, a chemistry major in Arts & Sciences, excelled on and off the field in her four years at Washington University. Doyle is the first player in women’s soccer team history to earn All-America and Academic All-America honors in the same season, accomplishing the feat in 2012 and 2013. She earned first-team NSCAA All-America and third-team Capital One Academic All-America honors in 2013.

How did you balance your time between academics and soccer?

I learned very early on that being organized is the key to success. There are certainly sacrifices that all athletes have to make, but prioritizing both schoolwork and soccer and trying to think a week or two in advance goes a long way.

How would you describe your dedication to the team?

I devoted myself entirely to this team the past four years, but I was really just following the example set down by all the classes that came before. I would do anything for my teammates and I know they would do the same.

Looking back on your career, what is your favorite soccer memory at Washington U.?

My fondest memory was our team trip to Italy my sophomore year. It was truly amazing to experience it with all my best friends. Everything was perfect, from the weather to the activities. I will remember that trip for the rest of my life.
